The proprietary Aqua Fair process starts with 100% pure polypropylene that is melt spun (extruded) without the use of any chemicals. The extruded media comprises of continuous filaments with a multi-lobal cross-section and several micro-voids between each filament. These chemical-free continuous threads are then randomly orientated toward one another, intermixed, looped, and twisted to form a non-round, highly stable, bulky yarn.The multi-lobal cross-section of filaments, together with the random yarn structure, results in a much enhanced void to solid ratio. The cartridge's robust construction gives it superb knife-edge sealing properties. Under variable flow and pressure changes, the redesigned cartridge is more resistant to particle unloading. 
With the improved media, there are no typical diamond-shaped open areas (a distinctive winding pattern of traditional string-wound media), and the yarn media covers the entire surface. The liquid travels throughout the yarn structure, forcing contaminating particles to change direction as they go down the cartridge's depth. The physics of flow make it possible to trap particles smaller than the size of the complicated paths. Finally, improved winding technology allows the pitch, number of crossings, and space between each yarn to be continuously varied and controlled from start to finish in the manufacturing process, and the space between yarns is gradually increased towards the outer layers, while the yarns remain locked together due to random protruding loops. This winding technology provides superior real density grading by trapping coarser particles in the outer layers and finer particles in the inner layers. By retaining the same winding tension, the construction retains the same hardness throughout the cartridge's depth, resulting in more consistent and improved performance. The Aqua Fair test results demonstrated that this proprietary procedure. provides up to twice the dirt holding capacity and filter life at comparable competitive efficiency, while cutting pressure drop by half.
