A gas-tight lens-shaped control aperture on an aperture control slide valve that was specifically designed and optimized for the accurate distribution and control of aeration air. The flow axis is descending and was developed in compliance with DIN EN 60534-2-3 for the sensitive management of normal and tangential air flows (such as those after pipe bends).
For accurate and low-loss air distribution and control in sewage treatment plants, the VACOMASS® elliptic diaphragm control valve features a gas-tight lens-shaped control orifice. It is a scientifically optimized diaphragm control valve. According to DIN EN 60534-2-3, the flow axis is made to be descending for delicate management of normal and tangential air flows (such as those after pipe bends).
The diaphragm control slide is made up of two housing pieces, each of which has been shaped to function as an end fitting or an intermediate flange. The partial surface has the seal groove integrated into it. The prism-shaped PTFE/carbon seal guides the slide plate and maintains the diaphragm control slide sealed in the housing division. This indicates that jamming is unachievable and flutter-free guiding is guaranteed by the combination of carbon, Teflon, and stainless steel.
The orifice control slide may be adjusted from 0 to 100% opening and has a reliable control characteristic in the normal control range. It satisfies the fundamental requirements of both the January 2018 edition of the NRW Energy in Wastewater Treatment Plants Handbook and the DWA M 229-1 pamphlet, both published in September 2017.
Different designs of the monitoring and control system are feasible depending on the geometry of the existing pipeline:
Typical layout

The air flow meter is positioned with enough inlet distance and at least 5*D in front of the control valve, if there is enough space, so that the flow profile won't affect the observed values as the stroke changes.
Small-scale layout

The diaphragm control slide is 500 mm in front of the air flow measurement. Either directly in the AL 100 air flow measurement device or through the flexcontrol system electronics, the air flow signal is adjusted depending on the current stroke. When retrofitting already-existing systems, this design works well because the straight pipe piece that is normally needed is typically unavailable.

Applications of Elliptical Diaphragm Control Valve

  1. Air for aeration in sewage treatment facilities, including commercial and municipal.
  2. Landfill leachate systems' aeration air.
  3. Sand traps air.
  4. Air exhaust.
  5. Air is used for combustion.

Features of Elliptical Diaphragm Control Valve

  1. Aperture control slide featuring a sinking flow axis and a lens-shaped control aperture.
  2. Control range: 0–100%; closure: gas tight.
  3. Accurate regulation is enhanced to facilitate further aerator cleaning.
  4. Because of the integrated pressure wave breaker (patent pending), there is no noise during regular operation. Normal control ranges are 30 to 70% opening and 90 to 100% stroke at the same pre-pressure for aerator flushing.
  5. An energy-saving design with a descending flow axis supports pressure recovery with relatively little pressure loss by directing the flow directly to the wall.
  6. Gas-tight seal, which eliminates the need for an additional automated shut-off valve and makes it appropriate for process optimization and alternating zone operation.
  7. The nominal diameter is determined by dimensioning based on the specified air volumes, mainly considering the best possible operation for the typical control air range.
  8. Pressure losses are prevented when the pipe is fully opened, releasing the entire cross-section.
  9. The control range for the air volume is far greater with this control panel's geometric design than it is with any other similar triangular, square, pentagonal, or hexagonal panel.
  10. To get the best control effect, the pipes in the measurement and control portions must be enlarged or tapered.
  11. is provided with a fully pre-assembled and adjusted VACOMASS® actuator, directly flanged; other brands, in addition to AUMA (SAR, SD, or Sipos 7), DREHMO, and ROTORK (IQM), are possible, provided they meet the technical requirements, depending on the application, required positioning accuracy, and operating modes.
  12. It can be used in conjunction with a VACOMASS® flow meter to provide both control and measurement.
