The project is among the largest in the field of agriculture. It is a 7.5 million m3 per day agricultural wastewater treatment facility located in the North Coast's Hammam area. Egypt will use it to attain food security. A 120-kilometer channel will be used to transport agricultural effluent from the northern Delta to the Hammam wastewater treatment plant. As part of the state's plan to increase the amount of land under cultivation throughout the republic, develop the Western Desert region, and establish new agricultural and residential communities reliant on agricultural production and manufacturing, the primary objective is to reclaim and cultivate 500,000 acres in the western Delta. On a larger scale, the New Delta Water Treatment Plant project also seeks to clean up Alexandria's Mediterranean shoreline and Lake Mariout of pollutants while developing an area that is distinguished by the quality of its fertile land and the subsequent development in all sectors. Through the diversion of drainage water and floods that contribute to the flooding of lands in Beheira Governorate to the New Delta region, the New Delta Project effectively mitigates climate change in the existing Delta region, drains, and pumping stations. Because the New Delta Project helps absorb this excess water, it is also feasible to decrease the amount of irrigation water that is fed from the High Dam during the rainy and flood seasons. Since it is a key component of creating a new delta to achieve truly sustainable development that benefits citizens, the New Delta Project for treating agricultural drainage water is included in both the National Water Plan "2017-2037" and the state's strategy for water resources until 2050.
