Membrane separation and desalination/Membrane separation include two processes:
(1) Reverse Osmosis process:

  • Penetration is a natural phenomenon. 
  • The water in the lower concentration of the solution passes through the semi-permeable membrane into the higher concentration solution until equilibrium is reached; reverse osmosis is the use of sufficient pressure to allow the solution (usually water) in the solution to pass through the reverse osmosis membrane A semi-permeable membrane) and the direction of the opposite direction of infiltration.
(2) Electro dialysis:
  • Electro dialysis is the use of the characteristics of the current to attract dissolved ions.
  •  When the current is introduced into the salt solution, the salt ions tend to adsorb on the opposite polarity of the electrode. 
  • Electro dialysis is specifically used for the desalination of beach water. 
  • In the heat treatment process to simulate natural circulation, the water is heated to produce steam, and then through the condensation, the product water (desalination water)
Main features of seawater quality
1. High salinity, generally about 35g/l (35000mg/l)
2. Corrosion, so all materials required seawater corrosion-resistance
3. Lots of animals and plants in seawater
4. The composition of various ions in seawater is relatively stable
5. PH value changes very few. PH value of surface seawater is between 8.1 and 8.3, deep seawater is about 7.8
