In a DHW system, a calorifier is a vessel that can heat water either directly or indirectly. Indirect calorifiers rely on an external heat source, like a boiler, heat pump, or solar collector, to heat the water instead of having their own burner. Simply put, an indirect calorifier is a water cylinder that has a coil that receives heat from an outside source. Liquid, such as water or solar fluid, is heated by an external heat source in a heat exchange coil, which is often located in the cylinder's lower half. A boiler, renewable energy source, or both may be used to provide the heat to the coil! They can run on external heat sources like solar panels, boilers, electrical heaters, heat pumps, or a combination of these. They come in a wide range of sizes, shapes, and designs. The kinds also differ according to the materials that are employed.
