In addition to being an efficient and sustainable way to improve soil, biochar also makes a substantial contribution to environmental preservation and sustainable development.

Biochar applications include:
1. Water purification

Elimination of taste and odor chemicals, chlorine, and organic contaminants. Absorption of pesticides and heavy metals during the wastewater and drinking water treatment process.
2. Purification of gases and air
Elimination of harmful gases, smells, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs).  It is employed to enhance indoor air quality and reduce industrial emissions.
3. The Recovery of Gold
Through adsorption, gold is extracted from cyanide solutions in the mining sector.
4. The pharmaceutical and medical industry
Detoxification (e.g., activated charcoal tablets) in poisoning or overdose cases. To enhance digestion and lower methane emissions, it is added to animal feed.  It is utilized in controlled-release drug delivery systems and therapeutic cosmetics.
5. Personal and Industrial Safety
Adding safety masks and respirators as filters. In nuclear facilities, it is used to trap radioactive iodine and other gases.
6. The Food and Drink Industry
7. Energy storage
8. Chemical Industries
9. The Iron and Steel Industry
10. The Cement Industry
11. Environmental Restoration

Characteristics of Biochar

  1. Retaining water and nutrients to improve soil fertility and boost crop yields.
  2. Depending on the crop, irrigation water can be cut by as much as 30%.
  3. It lowers the requirement for chemical fertilizers while increasing crop output.
  4. It promotes good plant growth by increasing the activity of soil microbes.
  5. By retaining atmospheric carbon in the soil and transforming it into terrestrial carbon over an extended period of time, it stores carbon dioxide.
  6. It is employed in land reclamation operations to restore contaminated or deteriorated soil.
