One of the factors that makes our Serial Digital Interface at 1200 Baud (SDI-12) cable particularly useful is that it operates using a battery but has a negligible current drain. This allows it to maintain the same long life as the the dipperLog NANO.

SDI-12 is a standard to interface battery powered ...
SDI-12 is a standard to interface battery powered data recorders with micro-processor based sensors designed for environmental data acquisition (EDA) and provides a means to transfer measurements taken by an intelligent sensor to a data recorder.
Why Do You Need A Microprocessor Based Sensor?
A micro-processor in the sensor controls sensor measurements, calibrates the sensor and convert raw sensor readings into engineering units. The micro-processor controls the SDI-12 interface, accepting and decoding instructions from the data recorder. It starts the measurements, controls timing and uses the SDI-12 protocol to communicate with the data recorder.

The Advantages of SDI-12
SDI-12 offers a range of benefits to professionals working in mining, hydrogeology, well drilling/servicing and construction industries.
  • The SDI-12 system enables the dipperLog NANO data to be accessed from remote locations by a central computer base without site visits.
  • A standard serial interface eliminates significant complexity in the design of data recorders
  • Sensors can be interchanged without reprogramming the data recorder with calibration or other information
  • Power is supplied to sensors through the interface
  • Unique and complex self-calibration can be performed in microprocessor-based sensors
