Through the semi-transparent membrane, the low-concentration side water of the massive industrial reverse osmosis apparatus will spread to the high-concentration side till the dynamic equilibrium. At this point, osmotic pressure is the differential in liquid level on either side of the semi-diaphragm. The water molecule progressively moves into the low-concentration side as pressure increases when external pressure is applied to the high-concentration side. The low-concentration side liquid level will be higher than the high-concentration side liquid level when the applied pressure is more than the osmotic pressure. We refer to this process as reverse osmosis.
