Use a semipermeable membrane that can only let through the water to separate water and another solution containing solutes. The osmotic pressure, which exists between the membrane's two sides, then comes into play. Osmosis is the process by which water molecules on the waterside automatically move through the membrane to the solution side when the pressure on the waterside increases, raising the liquid level on the solution side. When the liquid level rises to a certain height, the pressure on two sides of the membrane reaches a balance, and the rise stops. The water molecules will be squeezed into the waterside if the solution side is added in excess; this is known as reverse osmosis (RO), and it is the exact opposite of osmosis. As we can see from the RO process, the solution itself is concentrated, but the pressure causes the water molecules in the solution to pass into the pure water side, increasing the volume of pure water. The RO membrane we use in this equipment is a semi-permeable helix-type membrane. When raw water is sent to the RO membrane under specific pressure, water molecules pass through the membrane's micropores, collecting pure water while the RO membrane blocks the presence of impurities like bacteria, organic matter, and soluble solids.
Working principle:
The primary process is quartz sand multi-medium filter, mainly used to remove hazardous substances over 20um sediments in the water, e.g. manganese, corrosions, colloidal materials, mechanical impurities, suspended solids, etc Active carbon filters are used as a secondary process, primarily to eliminate pigments, odd odors, biochemical organics, pesticides, and other dangerous contaminants from the water. They also help to reduce the amount of chlorine that remains in the water. The tertiary process is the cationic resin softening of water, mainly to eliminate the hardness of the water. A 5 micrometer aperture ultrafilter is used in the quaternary process to further purify the water and optimize its turbidity and chromaticity in order to meet the RO system's inlet water requirements. Normal tap water can desalinate at a rate of 90–99% after RO reverse osmosis filtration, with a conductivity of less than 10 µs/cm. For lower conductivity, or conductivity of raw water beyond 500 µs/cm, secondary reverse osmosis can be introduced, and the conductivity of outlet water is under 5 µs/cm. With EDI continuous deionization and anion-cation exchange mixed bed, the conductivity will be under 1 µs/cm.
How Do I Know Which Size Unit to Buy?
General guidelines for modeling an RO system to take into consideration are the silt density index (SDI) measurement of the feed water after pretreatment. Derived from experience- ce, limits on permeate flux and element recovery for different types of waters are based on a correlation of the SDI value with membrane fouling and mineral content with element recovery, respectfully, for different types of waters. These general limits shown in Table 1 below serve as boundary conditions when designing a RO system. For instance, higher fouling rates and more frequent chemical cleanings are likely to occur in a system designed with high permeate flux rates. Due to high salinity (>36,000 ppm TDS), seawater system designs are further limited by the osmotic pressure and durability of the membrane elements
