Overflow valves guard against overpressure for both the pressure-side installations and the pump. Back pressure valves keep the back pressure that the pump needs steady. Pressure-retaining and overflow valve functions are combined in multifunctional valves. In the event of maintenance, they also function to empty the discharge line and vent the pump.
